Harry Maguire admits Manchester United were not good enough at Arsenal

 

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has admitted that the Red Devils were not good enough as they suffered a disappointing 2-0 league defeat to Arsenal on New Year’s Day. The Red Devils went into the game as the favourites with the Gunners struggling for form but it was the north London side which dominated the proceedings at the Emirates.

United managed to initially test the Gunners goalkeeper on a couple of occasions but barring that, they struggled to gain any stranglehold on the game with the hosts enjoying the better chances on goal. The Capital outfit managed to score only twice during the course of the encounter but they could have quite easily doubled that advantage with the chances conceded by the Red Devils.

ARSENAL TO PAY PARTEY’S RELEASE CLAUSE

Arsenal are ready to pay the release clause for Atletico Madrid’s midfielder Thomas Partey. According to reports, the Ghana international has a €50 million release clause in his contract and the Gunners are hoping to activate the clause in the Summer.

OZIL TO FEATURE AGAINST ASTON VILLA

Arsenal will not be traveling to Germany with their star player MesutOzil as per reports. The player is being rested for their Eintracht Frankfurt tie on Thursday despite playing only 71 minutes so far. The coach Unai Emery has come out to defend the choice of leaving out the former Real Madrid man.


Emery said he wants the midfielder to rest as his rotation plans come into effect. He said defender SokratisPapastathopoulos and Ozil will be rested for this game as he plans with 11 plans and rotates his squad of 19 fit players. The coach expects Ozil to feature in Aston Villa game as he would be physically and emotionally ready.

Arsenal fans have been hailing the released pictures of Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney in full training with the team. The defensive pair is expected to return and hand a boost to the current overwhelmed mechanism.

Arsenal are looking to sign Benfica left-back Alex Grimaldi as part of a double transfer deals for the club. The Gunners have been without a sporting director since the exit of Sven Mlinstat in February and are looking to appoint former Sevilla director Monchi for the position.

Arsenal are reportedly playing the waiting game with midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who has yet to commit to them on a long-term contract. The Wales international has just 11 months left on his current deal with the Gunners but so far, the club have not managed to come to terms with his wage demands.

WRIGHT BLASTS OZIL’S MESSAGE

A former and a current player of Arsenal have clashed over the recent turn of events at the Emirates.


MesutOzil, current midfielder in the Gunners setup complained in a heartfelt post about the level of criticisms the team was receiving and more importantly that former players preferred to talk more than support the team. The 28-year old German asked them to “stop talking and start supporting” in a long post on Facebook.

Wright has hit out at the player, saying he was in no position to say such considering that he was yet to extend his deal with the north London club. Ozil has been a subject of a long drawn contract extension saga. The club eventually convinced him to remain at the club as there were reports he could exit. He was promised a huge wage packet but nothing official has been announced ever since.

“Sign a contract, if you feel that strongly about people criticizing the team, because you’re somebody who is integral to Arsenal’s success,” Wright declared. Read More
